The latest update to the question bank system in Moodle version 4.3 introduces several new features designed to improve usability and management of the questions banks. These improvements aim to significantly enhance usability and improve the overall experience for instructors, especially those managing large question banks.
Here's a breakdown of the key features and enhancements:
1. Versioning of Questions
- Automatic Versioning: Every edit made to a question results in the creation of a new version. This feature is particularly useful for tracking changes and ensuring the integrity of questions over time. For example, if a question is created initially (v1) and later edited (v2, v3), each version is logged and viewable.
- Viewing History: Instructors can view the history by clicking on the "History" option, which provides information on when each version was created and who made the changes. This makes it easy to track the evolution of a question and revert to previous versions if needed.
2. Status Management
Each question's status can be changed to "Ready," "Draft," or other labels. If a question is still being reviewed or edited, setting it as "Draft" ensures it won’t appear in exams until finalized.
- Ready Status: Questions can be marked as "Ready" when they are finalized and ready for inclusion in exams. This status helps ensure that only approved questions are used in assessments.
- Draft Status: Questions that are still under review or need further enhancements can be kept in a "Draft" status. Draft questions are not visible in the online exam until they are marked as ready.
3. Commenting Feature
Instructors can add comments to questions for reference. These comments are visible only to instructors and can be used to note important information or reminders about the question.
4. Question Metrics
- A: Facility Index: This index measures how easy or difficult a question is based on student performance. It is calculated by analyzing the number of correct and incorrect answers. A high facility index indicates an easy question, while a low facility index indicates a difficult question.
- B: Discriminative Efficiency: This index evaluates how well a question distinguishes between high-performing and low-performing students. A high discriminative efficiency indicates that the question is effective in distinguishing between students with different levels of understanding. A high discriminative efficiency indicates that the question is effective in distinguishing between students with different levels of understanding.
- C: Needs Checking Index: This index indicates whether a question needs further review ("Yes") or is fine as it is ("No"). Questions flagged with "Yes" should be reviewed to ensure they meet quality standards. This index helps to ensure the quality and reliability of the questions. It involves analyzing the performance of questions using statistical measures like facility and discrimination indexes.
5. Usage Tracking
- Usage Count: The system keeps track of how many times each question has been used.
- Last Used: This feature shows the exact date and time when the question was last used.
